Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s romance safeguarded by Chiefs president’s one beautiful promises, “We’re not going to monetize it”

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has found not just success on the gridiron but unwavering support off it, thanks to a franchise that respects his personal life.

Chiefs President Mark Donovan recently opened up about the behind-the-scenes approach the team took when Kelce’s romance with pop superstar Taylor Swift first became public. From the very start, the organization prioritized discretion, ensuring the relationship was never treated as a marketing opportunity.

“Taylor’s been amazing to us. It’s been nothing but good. She is a phenomenon. She is just a special kind of person,” Donovan told sportscaster Kay Adams on the Up and Adams Show on December 1.

He recalled early conversations with Kelce emphasizing respect and privacy, promising that the team would handle the relationship just like any other personal matter within the franchise.

“I told Travis, ‘Look, we are going to treat you and your relationship with the same respect that we treat any other player or coach’s relationship,’” Donovan shared. “It’s a relationship. We’re not going to monetize it, we’re not going to go out there and go crazy.”

Donovan explained that despite the media frenzy surrounding Swift’s appearances at games, the Chiefs resisted turning the relationship into a spectacle. Unlike televised broadcasts that often highlight Swift, Arrowhead Stadium never displayed her on the video boards, especially during Kelce’s first season with the public watching closely.

“For a couple of years, all those shots you see in the stadium. He scores a touchdown. He makes a catch. It goes to Taylor. Especially the first year. We never showed Taylor on our big boards in our stadium, never,” Donovan said. “It was respectful. We’re not going to do that.” He added, “We’re not taking advantage of this relationship.”

Kelce himself insisted on keeping things focused on the team, even weighing in on the music played during games. “Travis, to his credit, is all about team and he’s all about the guys and he’s all about being part of a team and not being separate,” Donovan said. “And he said, ‘That separates me… When we’re playing a game. When we’re in that stadium, it’s about us. And I want it to be about us.’”

The couple confirmed their romance in October 2023, following Swift’s first appearance at one of Kelce’s games, and announced their engagement in August 2025. The Chiefs embraced the announcement with a heartfelt social media post: “Today is a fairytale. Congrats to Travis and Taylor — we’re excited to have you as a permanent member of the Chiefs Kingdom family!”
