The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl back in February, and that means they’re taking another trip to the White House.
The tradition for championship teams has become routine for the Chiefs, who have won three Super Bowls in the last five seasons.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have been twice before, but the veterans are putting their best foot forward for today’s appearance.
The Chiefs posted a video of Kelce’s arrival at the White House ahead of the visit on Friday, and the star tight end’s outfit went viral.
Kelce wore a tan suit with a white shirt and black tie, keeping things relatively simple for the big day.
“Give him the mic this year,” one fan said, hoping to hear Kelce speak at the visit. As one of the top stars of the team, there’s a good chance that fan will get their wish.
The President will usually interact with some of the top athletes on each team during these White House visits, often posing for a photo-op with the customary jersey featuring their last name.
The Chiefs are hoping to make yet another visit to the White House next season. To get there, they’ll need to do something no team has done in NFL history by winning a third consecutive Super Bowl.
Teams have gone back-to-back before in the Super Bowl era, but no team has ever won the big game three times in a row.
The closest team was the Green Bay Packers of the 1960s, who won two Super Bowls after winning an NFL Championship in the first year of the run.
For now, all 32 teams are hoping to be where the Kansas City Chiefs are today. We’ll see if they can get back, or if another team will emerge as the next Super Bowl winners.
