Yellow Ranger

Thuy Trang’s legacy as Trini Kwan will forever live on in Power Rangers, and the franchise has recently put the original Yellow Ranger front and center in several stories across different media. Even though the Power Rangers chronology continued past Mighty Morphin, the franchise never stopped telling stories about its original heroes. Not only did several MMPR actors return for cameos and even recurring roles in other shows and movies, but properties like the comics and the games regularly revisit the “teenagers with attitude” audiences were introduced to in 1993.

Trini Kwan’s final appearance in Power Rangers was in season 2, episode 20, “Opposites Attract” released in 1994. This was also the final proper appearances of Jason Lee Scott and Zack Taylor before Austin St. John, Walter Emanuel Jones, and Thuy Trang left the show. The original Red, Black, and Yellow Rangers would still appear in a couple of other episodes, although through reused footage and stand-in body doubles. Thuy Trang sadly died in a car accident on September 3, 2001. Since then, Power Rangers has paid homage to Trang a few times, and Trini’s legacy has only grown.

Power Rangers’ Trini Kwan Novel Continues The Franchise’s Appreciation Of The Original Yellow Ranger

Yellow Ranger

Force of Chaos, an upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers novel by Diana Ma, is the latest entry in the Power Rangers to put Trini front and center. Set during the Mighty Morphin era, Force of Chaos is expected to cover the first few days of the Power Rangers through the perspective of Trini. The book, which is set to be the first of a series of Power Rangers novels, is based on the events of the show but apparently pulls inspiration from BOOM! Studios’ Power Rangers comics, particularly the Go, Go Power Rangers run.

But Trini’s world turns upside down when the homecoming game is attacked by an otherworldly winged beast with an army of clay soldiers. Unable to sit by while innocent people get hurt, Trini springs into action—alongside science genius Billy, her childhood best friend Zack, popular jock Jason, and new girl Kimberley.

The official synopsis for Force of Chaos mentions Zack as Trini’s childhood best friend, which is not something from the show and is closer to how they were portrayed in the comics. Force of Chaos also describes Kimberly as the “new girl,” which matches her story in the comic book canon. Lastly, it hints at a potential relationship between Trini and Zack, which the comics have explored. Force of Chaos will allow us to revisit the formation of the Power Rangers through Trini’s eyes, delivering something neither the show nor the comics have done. The book arrives on May 13, 2025

Power Rangers’ 30th Anniversary Special Was Entirely Dedicated To Thuy Trang & Trini

Once & Always Was About The Original Yellow Ranger’s Legacy

Force of Chaos is not the only recent Power Rangers project dedicated to the original Yellow Ranger. Power Rangers: Once & Always, the Netflix special that celebrated the show’s 30th anniversary, was entirely dedicated to Thuy Trang and Trini’s legacy. Before Once & Always, Trini was still alive in Power Rangers canon, having technically appeared with her helmet on in a couple of crossover episodes. At the beginning of Once & Always, Trini is killed by Robot Rita, allowing the rest of the special to show how the loss of the original Yellow Ranger affected the rest of the team.
