Matt Damon has recently shared his thoughts on his close friend and fellow actor, Ben Affleck, following the news of Affleck’s divorce from Jennifer Lopez.
In an interview with the RadioTimes podcast, Damon opened up about the stark contrast between their experiences in the entertainment industry, particularly in terms of media scrutiny and public attention.
Damon, who has been married to his wife, Luciana Barroso, for 25 years, expressed his gratitude for having a partner outside of the limelight.
He admitted that his low-profile relationship has shielded him from the intense media scrutiny that has often plagued Affleck’s career.
“That really helped me,” Damon said. “25 years ago, the gossip magazine culture was huge, but they ignored me.
I wasn’t an exciting story—the guy who’s married, it’s boring! Scandal and sex, that’s what people would read magazines for.”
Damon then turned his attention to Affleck, who has been a frequent subject of tabloid headlines throughout his career due to high-profile relationships with figures like Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Garner, and Ana de Armas.
“I’ve been really lucky,” Damon continued. “Especially when I look at Casey’s brother, Ben. We’ve had parallel careers in a lot of ways, but I can’t imagine living under that scrutiny for 25 years.”
Damon’s comments offer a glimpse into the challenges faced by celebrities navigating the often-invasive world of public scrutiny. While both Damon and Affleck have achieved significant success in their careers, their experiences outside of the spotlight have been vastly different.
