Margot Robbie

Is there anything Margot Robbie can’t do?

The super-versatile actor has played everything from a supervillain (though Harley Quinn is really more complex than that) to the most famous doll of all time, and fans have just discovered another of her talents: sign language skills!

Thanks to Robbie starring in the biggest blockbuster of the summer, a video from a premiere event for Amsterdam (so, fall 2022) is currently going viral on The Platform Formerly Known as Twitter.

In the clip, she signs autographs for fans at a barricade, and one seems to get her attention with a gesture. You can see her say “I know it!” before she hands her pen and paper to her handlers and signs a few phrases to the man, like “Nice to meet you.”

Commenters have noted that this is not American Sign Language but might be British or Australian.

Then they take a picture together.

For once, the reactions online seem to be entirely positive, with many calling out how sweet and surprising the interaction is (to our recollection, Robbie’s never talked about knowing how to sign!), and also how annoying the person calling her name off-camera is.

In another angle on the interaction, you can see the fan hand Robbie what looks like a cheat sheet of signs before she makes her way through the alphabet.

Not exactly fluent, but she can have a convo!

The fan who apparently had this interaction with her also posted the pictures they took together, and the videos in which they sign “hello.”

Though this skill may come as a surprise, perhaps it shouldn’t: Margot Robbie has always been excellent at communicating without using verbal speech.

When a reporter noted that, as Sharon Tate, Robbie had relatively few lines of dialogue in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, the actor responded, “I did feel like I got a lot of time to explore the character without dialogue.

Rarely do I get an opportunity to spend so much time on my own as a character.” And of course, on the Barbie press tour, she let the clothes speak loud and clear. Yes, she just keeps getting cooler.
