One of the most significant ones was the fundraiser started by a group called “December 4 Legal Committee” on GiveSendGo. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga also recently got associated with the case. A social media post claiming that Gaga is gathering evidence to free Luigi has gone viral. Subsequently, other posts suggesting the same have been found on platforms like X and Threads.
A post on X, by a netizen with the username @mummummummah, read:
“Lady Gaga has started looking for evidence to free Luigi Mangione (TMZ reports).”
A similar post was also shared on Threads, by user @iconnickofficial, which stated:
“New York Times confirm and TMZ reporters said Lady Gaga has hired a ‘brilliant team of lawyers and researchers’ to help construct a case to free Luigi Mangione. italiansdoitbetter.”
Lady Gaga and Luigi Mangione seemingly got linked up by netizens particularly because of their Italian origins. A user wrote on X:
“Italians looking after fellow italians, is an mvp move.”

However, despite the viral claims and speculations, this information isn’t true. The publications mentioned in the above posts, including TMZ and The New York Times, have not published any news claiming Lady Gaga was associated with Luigi’s case in any way.
Furthermore, no statement has been provided by the artist confirming that she is trying to free the suspected shooter. Thus, the rumors must be debunked. While the rumor was believed by many across social media platforms, it should be clarified that it isn’t true.
Investigating officers are still looking into the motive of the killing wherein Luigi Mangione is the main suspect
While Luigi Mangione is facing murder charges in connection to the fatal shooting of Brian Thompson, authorities are still trying to determine the exact motive. As per an article published by NBC New York on December 12, the NYPD’s Chief of Detectives, Joseph Kenny, stated that there is “no indication” that Mangione has been a client of UnitedHealthcare in the past.
It was further revealed that it couldn’t be suggested that Luigi held any grudges against the CEO who was shot dead. Kenny told the publication:
“We have no indication that he was ever a client of UnitedHealthcare, but he does make mention that it is the fifth largest corporation in America, which would make it the largest healthcare organization in America.”
According to officers, he might have targeted the CEO since UnitedHealthcare is a massive health insurer in the United States.
Meanwhile, as per New York law, even if Luigi is charged with the highest degree of murder, he wouldn’t face the death penalty. His punishment might be anything between 15 years to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. No additional details have been made available on this case and updates are awaited.
