Taylor Swift was spotted enjoying a burger and fries during a controversial date night with Travis Kelce and the Mahomes’ in New Orleans—just 48 hours before the Super Bowl.
On Friday night, two days before the Chiefs’ historic showdown, Kelce and longtime teammate Patrick Mahomes took their partners, Taylor and Brittany, out for a luxurious double date at the French restaurant Lilette.
Their outing sparked controversy given how close it was to Sunday’s championship game, which Kansas City ultimately lost 40-22, failing to achieve a historic three-peat.
The Viral Pre-Super Bowl Date Night
Onlookers spotted the high-profile group arriving at Lilette late Friday evening, where a large crowd had gathered outside the popular Magazine Street eatery.
While it’s unclear what everyone else ordered, a source told DailyMail.com that Swift surprisingly opted for a Kobe beef burger and fries. The pop superstar was reportedly “super chatty” and in an “amazing and fun mood,” as was the entire group.
“All four of them were in a tremendously good mood throughout dinner, anticipating a different outcome for the big game,” the source added.
Even their waitress, however, was reportedly shocked to see Kelce and Mahomes out so close to the Super Bowl.
In past years, strict curfews have been in place for players leading up to the big game, making their public appearance unusual just 48 hours before kickoff.
Swift Stuns in Black, Mahomes Goes All-In on Chiefs Red
A beaming Swift, dressed in a sleek black dress and matching Eleonor boots from Larroudé, was spotted leaving the restaurant hand-in-hand with Kelce, who kept things casual in a gray tracksuit.
Meanwhile, Mahomes and Brittany were seen leaving moments later. The Chiefs quarterback, dressed in an all-black outfit with a white cap, was escorted down the stairs and into a taxi alongside Brittany, who went full Chiefs mode in a long red coat and matching boots.
As the power couples exited, a crowd of fans erupted in cheers, with security flanking them on both sides.
Did the Night Out Impact the Super Bowl Performance?
Though there was no official rule against their pre-Super Bowl dinner, many questioned whether the night out affected their focus—especially given Kelce and Mahomes’ lackluster performances.
In Sunday’s devastating loss to the Eagles, Mahomes threw two interceptions and was sacked six times, while Kelce was largely anonymous, recording just four catches for 39 yards.
Kelce Now Contemplating Retirement
Following the defeat, Kelce shocked fans by admitting he is seriously considering retirement.
On Wednesday’s episode of his New Heights podcast, the 35-year-old opened up about the “wear and tear” of 12 grueling NFL seasons:
“The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and these Super Bowls means I’m playing three extra games than everyone else in the league. That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body.”
He acknowledged that the mental and physical toll has started to catch up with him:
“This sport can make you better, but it can also drive you crazy. This year, it started driving me crazy. It happens when you tail off toward the back nine of your career. When you don’t have the success you used to, it’s a tough pill to swallow.”
Despite speculation, Kelce hasn’t made a final decision about retirement but admitted he needs time to figure it out:
“I think I can still play, but it’s about whether or not I’m motivated—and if it’s the best decision for me as a person.”
With the season now behind him, Kelce and Swift reportedly plan to take a break together, as the couple enjoys much-needed downtime after an intense year.
